iPhone 18 Pro in India: Price, A20 Pro Chip and What Actually Changed

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max went on sale in India on September 18, 2026, after pre-orders opened a few days earlier. Prices climbed again this generation, so it's worth being specific about what's actually different rather than assuming a new number means a meaningfully different phone. Here's what changed, in plain terms.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 in India, with the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max starting at Rs 1,79,900. Storage options now extend up to 2TB on the higher-end configurations, well beyond what most people will ever fill, but useful if you shoot a lot of 4K video or ProRes footage directly on the phone.
Both models ship with Apple's new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometre manufacturing process — a smaller, more efficient transistor size than the previous generation's chip. It pairs a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU with a 16-core Neural Engine, and Apple has added a second Neural Engine core specifically to handle on-device AI tasks alongside an improved thermal system, aimed at sustaining performance during longer, more demanding workloads like gaming or video export without throttling as quickly.
The headline camera change is a 48-megapixel main sensor with a variable aperture — meaning the camera can physically adjust how much light it lets in, similar to how a proper camera lens works, rather than relying purely on software processing to compensate for bright or dim scenes. The display is a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with ProMotion, Apple's adaptive refresh-rate technology that can run up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and animations while dropping lower to save battery when the screen is mostly static.
If you're on an iPhone 15 Pro or older, the combination of the A20 Pro's efficiency gains, the variable-aperture camera and the higher base storage ceiling is a genuinely noticeable jump. If you're already on an iPhone 17 Pro from last year, this is a more incremental update — a faster chip and a camera refinement, not a redesign — so it's worth weighing the price against how much you'd actually use the specific new capabilities (variable aperture, 2TB storage) rather than upgrading on habit.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900, based on Apple's India pricing at launch on September 18, 2026. Higher storage configurations, up to 2TB, cost more.
It lets the camera physically widen or narrow the opening that lets light onto the sensor, similar to a traditional camera lens, rather than only using software to brighten or darken a shot after the fact. In practice, this generally means better detail retention in both very bright and very low light conditions than a fixed-aperture camera can manage through processing alone.
Apple states the A20 Pro adds a second Neural Engine core, an improved thermal system and a 2nm manufacturing process, which together point to better sustained performance and on-device AI handling rather than a dramatic raw speed leap — the kind of update that matters most if you regularly push your phone with demanding, longer-running tasks.
